4 Great Reasons to Try a “Staycation”

The moment the weather gets nicer and the snow begins to melt, we start planning our summer vacations. It’s almost as if warm weather makes us hungry for those summer leisure activities. But sometimes, for whatever reason, we aren’t able to get enough time off work or it simply isn’t feasible to fly out to a tropical beach resort, and then you realize that summer is almost over and you still haven’t booked a trip! Don’t worry, you can still go on a summer vacation this year! Have you ever considered a staycation? For working couples and bustling families, or even those busy bees who want to try a staycation solo, this is a fantastic alternative to a pricy, travel heavy vacation. Thank goodness a beach resort exists close to home, right here in central Alberta.

Close to Home

The hardest part about vacationing can be the travel time and the delayed flights. Spending half your vacation in an airport doesn’t sound overly relaxing and we all know it’s next to impossible to sleep in those uncomfortable seats! If you crave the beach, it’s actually a lot easier to find that beach vacation than you might think. Gleniffer Lake has a beautiful resort nestled next to the water and the commute time is so manageable that it barely feels like a road trip! At just 75 minutes from Calgary, 2 hours south of Edmonton and 35 minutes outside Red Deer, Gleniffer Lake Resort is the perfect place to take the kids. “Are we there yet” will barely be out of their mouths before you pull up next to the picturesque landscape.

Amenities

Not only does Gleniffer Lake have 5000 feet of shoreline, but did you know there’s also a 9 hole golf course? This challenging course is one you won’t want to miss this summer if you’re an avid or even a beginner golfer. While you’re golfing, the kids can enjoy a dip in the indoor or outdoor pools or explore the two parks onsite. If “staycation” means you don’t want to cook, The Landing is the licensed restaurant that sits right on the lake that will serve you from 11:00am to 8:00pm, with the exception of Friday steak nights and Saturday Prime Rib nights until 9:00pm. The general store is fully stocked with ice cream for those post-beach day cravings and DVD rentals are available for family movie nights.

Beaches in Alberta Do Exist

We don’t immediately associate central Alberta as being a wonderful place for a beachside vacation, but after you’ve been to Gleniffer Lake Resort you will. The water is clean, clear and perfect for all kinds of watersports and beach activities. It’s not uncommon to watch sailboats lazily gliding by, and we encourage you to set sail on Gleniffer Lake! With boat slips available to rent or purchase, it’s easy to make sailing part of your summer routine. If you prefer your feet to stay put on land, the expansive shoreline is ideal for sandcastle construction and water fights!

Bring the Whole Crew

Because Gleniffer Lake offers so much to do, it’s a no-brainer to bring the kids, take a much needed beachfront getaway with the girls or spend a few days sailing with the boys. The variety of rental properties makes it easy to find something that suits your needs and numbers, and pet friendly units are also available! With an off-leash field next to the park, the furrier family members will have a chance to run wild. Taking the whole family or your crew won’t break the bank and since it’s so close to Alberta’s major cities, it’s not nearly as difficult to coordinate a few days vacation time.
Gleniffer Lake might be your saving grace when you need to get that last minute summer vacation organized. It is still possible to enjoy a beach vacation without having to fly thousands of miles to get there, instead it’s just a quick road trip away. Check out some of our rental properties and you might just find yourself joining us for Prime Rib night next Saturday! Paradise really is closer than you think.
