If you’re anything like us, you don’t like to stay cooped up all winter just because it’s cold outside. There’s plenty to explore in this province and if you haven’t had a chance to take a winter day trip around Central Alberta, perhaps this is the year you venture out!
We’re famous for our gorgeous skies and our incredible landscapes and it’s not lost on us how lucky we are that we have such a wildly diverse backyard. A little spot you may have visited during the warmer months turns into an otherworldly winter wonderland during this time of year. We’re talking about Drumheller! The hoodoos are a sight to behold in the summertime, but the gorgeous peeks of sandstone turn into winter magic under the snow. Closeby is the famous Horseshoe Canyon and it boasts exquisite views during a snowy sunrise, if you’re brave enough to get up that early!
If you’re the hiking type, another point of interest is Elk Island National Park. A grassy oasis so close to our provincial capitol, Elk Island’s 80 plus kilometers of trail is the perfect place to go snowshoeing, watch for buffalo crossings and to observe the northern lights. Perhaps ice fishing and skating are more your thing, in which case head out to Sylvan Lake, Gull Lake or Pigeon Lake. Be sure to check their local events to see how they’ve changed their accessibility before you drive out!
The folks of Alberta will always be able to find something to do if they venture into the outdoors. If you’re on the hunt for some quality peace and quiet without having to travel too far, there might be something just perfect for you in our available rental opportunities! Another gem of central Alberta is our very own Gleniffer Lake Resort and Country Club and we can’t wait to have you join us when we open our cottage rentals again in January!
